Name

The name of the municipality comes from the old ''Alver'' farm ( non, Alviðra). The name has two parts ''"al"'' meaning "whole" and ''"viðra"'' meaning "weather", probably referring to the location which is exposed to the weather from all directions. mIt is the same root as the other local names like Alversund and Alverstraumen.


Coat of arms

The
